What are Diode ring mixers?

The Diode ring mixers are the original switching mixer. They have two transformers and an array of diodes in a ring. Mostly, the transformers are arranged in an order so that one signal switches the diodes to conduct in one direction, or the other direction or path. The other transformer pushes its signal in the course of the diodes. The Diode ring mixers are popular for the reason that the on/off mechanism injects less noise, and loses fewer or low signal power than other methods. In addition, the transformers can be wound to equal the impedances into and out of the mixer stage to the rest of the electronic system.
